A Shoreview woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured June 11 in a motorcycle crash shortly after 6 p.m. on southbound Interstate Highway 35 in Forest Lake.
The crash occurred not far south of the 11th Avenue bridge, According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Michael Burwell, 68, of Shoreview was driving a Yamaha Road Street motorcycle on the road with his wife, Lynn Burwell, 66, as a passenger. The back tire of the vehicle began to wobble, and the bike fell to the road and rolled over. Both of the riders sustained serious injuries and were airlifted separately to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Lynn Burwell’s injuries proved to be fatal.
Michael Burwell was not wearing a helmet, and Lynn Burwell was.
The crash stopped traffic on southbound I-35, which was backed up about a mile and a half shortly after the accident, and stymied motorists attempting to leave the Forest Lake rest stop. The crash also attracted the attention of numerous onlookers from the popular fishing spots along the west shore of Clear Lake.
